Dancing Through Life

Your SotD is another from the musical Wicked. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about this song, but it really grew on me and it's now one of my favorites. I love how all the shallow characters in this musical eventually became deeper, more complex characters as the story came to its end. Fiyero particularly is one of my favorite characters. He is one of the only people in the whole play who could see beyond Elphaba's (the wicked witch) green skin and see the person beneath. This is the song that introduces us to his character and as you can tell by the song, he doesn't come off as a particularly deep and moral character, but I think he uses this persona to cover a more sensitive and kind person beneath. Sort of like how Elphaba's green skin covers a completely different person beneath it. I hope you like it!

Dancing Through Life
Wicked Musical

The trouble with schools is
They always try to teach the wrong lessons
Believe me, I've been kicked out
Of enough of them to know
They want you to become less callow
Less shallow
But I say: why invite stress in?
Stop studying strife
And learn to live the unexamined life

Dancing through life
Skimming the surface
Gliding where turf is smooth
Life's more painless
For the brainless
Why think too hard
When it's so soothing
Dancing through life
No need to tough it
When you can slough it off as I do
Nothing matters
But knowing nothing matters
It's just life
So keep dancing through

Dancing through life
Swaying and sweeping
And always keeping cool
Life is fraught-less
When you're thoughtless
Those who don't try
Never look foolish
Dancing through life
Mindless and careless

WRONG: Make sure you wear less
Trouble and rife
RIGHT: Make sure you're where less trouble is rife.

Woes are fleeting
Blows are glancing
When you're dancing
Through life
(spoken) So - what's the most swankified place in town?

(spoken) That would be the Ozdust Ballroom.

(spoken) Sounds perfect.
Let's go down to the Ozdust Ballroom
We'll meet there later tonight
We can dance till it's light
Find the prettiest girl
Give 'er a whirl
Right on down to the Ozdust Ballroom
Come on - follow me
You'll be happy to be there

Oh, I listened to the soundtrack you gave me, it was fun! I didn't realize that a song in a spot I did for Kati last year (just for fun because we couldn't buy the song)was from Wicked (Popular).
